Krav Maga in Bangkok: Inside Thailand's Only KMG-Licensed Academy

Krav Maga Global training at INNOV8 MMA Bangkok

Bangkok has hundreds of martial arts gyms. Muay Thai camps on every soi, BJJ academies packed from Thonglor to Asoke, and MMA facilities popping up all over the city. But when it comes to Krav Maga, specifically authentic and internationally certified Krav Maga, there is only one option in the entire country.

INNOV8 MMA on Sukhumvit 93 in Bangkok's Phra Khanong district holds the exclusive Krav Maga Global (KMG) licence for Thailand. We are the first and only gym in the country authorised to teach the official KMG curriculum, grade students under the KMG system, and certify instructors to KMG standards.

If you have been looking for real self-defence training in Bangkok, this is what you need to know.

What Is Krav Maga Global?

Krav Maga started in the 1930s when Imi Lichtenfeld developed a practical self-defence system for the Jewish community in Bratislava. After moving to Israel, Lichtenfeld refined the system for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), and it became the official combat training method for soldiers, police, and security services across the country.

Krav Maga Global was founded by Eyal Yanilov, who was Lichtenfeld's most senior and longest-serving student. Yanilov trained directly under the creator for over 15 years and was personally chosen to carry the system forward. Today, KMG operates in more than 60 countries with a unified curriculum, standardised grading, and mandatory annual instructor recertification.

Why does lineage matter? Because several Krav Maga organisations exist worldwide, including IKMF, KRAVolution, and various independent affiliations, each with their own interpretations of the system. KMG is the direct continuation of the original method, maintained by the person Lichtenfeld himself chose to lead it.

Why KMG in Bangkok?

Bangkok's self-defence scene has historically been limited to Muay Thai-based approaches or generic "self-defence" classes without any formal accreditation. Muay Thai is an exceptional striking art, but it operates within sporting rules. There are rounds, weight classes, a referee, and a ring.

Krav Maga has none of that. The system is built for real-world scenarios: street attacks, multiple aggressors, weapon threats, ground survival, and situations where the goal is not to win a fight but to get home safely.

Our KMG programme at INNOV8 MMA fills a gap that has existed in Thailand's martial arts scene for years. We provide civilians, expats, corporate teams, and security professionals with access to the world's most respected self-defence system, taught under the direction of a certified KMG director.

Who Teaches KMG at INNOV8 MMA?

The programme operates under the authority of Victor Lens, KMG Thailand Director. Victor created the curriculum and oversees all KMG operations in the country, including grading standards, instructor development, and specialist workshops.

Day-to-day classes are taught by Darren, a KMG instructor-level certified coach with 14 years of Krav Maga experience. Darren runs the regular civilian programme and brings over a decade of hands-on teaching to every session.

Together, they deliver three distinct KMG tracks at INNOV8 MMA:

Civilian Self-Defence. This is the core programme, open to anyone regardless of age, fitness level, or martial arts experience. Classes cover situational awareness, de-escalation, striking fundamentals, defence against common attacks like grabs, chokes and headlocks, ground survival, and weapon threats. Krav Maga was designed from the start to be learned quickly by people with no prior training. The techniques are based on natural body movements and instinctive reactions, so you do not need a background in martial arts to pick them up.

Law Enforcement and Military. Scenario-based training designed for police, military, and security professionals. This programme follows KMG's professional curriculum, which is used by law enforcement and military units in over 20 countries worldwide.

Women's and Corporate Workshops. Tailored workshops covering practical self-defence, threat prevention, and confidence building. These are popular with international companies in Bangkok looking to provide safety training for their staff, as well as schools and women's groups wanting practical self-defence skills.

How KMG Training at INNOV8 MMA is Different

If you search for Krav Maga in Bangkok, you will find other options, some affiliated with organisations like KRAVolution or IKMF. Understanding the difference between these affiliations is worth your time if you care about the quality and international recognition of your training.

KMG (Krav Maga Global) is the direct lineage organisation, founded by Eyal Yanilov, who trained under Imi Lichtenfeld himself. Other Krav Maga organisations are separate entities that developed their own curricula independently after breaking from the original structure.

Here is what that means in practice at INNOV8 MMA:

Your grades are recognised worldwide. Every KMG gym follows the same grading system. If you earn your Practitioner 2 level at INNOV8 MMA in Bangkok, that grade is recognised at any KMG school in over 60 countries. You can train in London, Tel Aviv, São Paulo, or Sydney and pick up exactly where you left off.

Instructors recertify every year. KMG requires every instructor to recertify annually. It is not optional. It is a condition of holding the licence. That means the teaching stays current with the latest research, threat analysis, and technique refinement.

Training is scenario-based and stress-tested. KMG classes at INNOV8 MMA include controlled stress drills, multiple-attacker scenarios, and weapon defence simulations. The point is to train your nervous system to function under pressure, not just to memorise techniques in a calm environment.

There is no sporting element. KMG has no competitions, no tournaments, no points, and no weight classes. Every technique is evaluated solely on whether it works in a real, uncontrolled situation.

What to Expect at Your First KMG Class

If you have never done Krav Maga before, here is what a typical session at INNOV8 MMA looks like.

You start with a dynamic warm-up designed to get your heart rate up and prepare your body for physical contact. Then comes the technique instruction, where your coach demonstrates and breaks down the session's focus. That might be defence against a front choke, dealing with a push or grab, or striking combinations from a self-defence position.

After that, you drill the technique with a partner at increasing intensity. Classes often finish with a stress drill, which is a scenario-based exercise designed to test whether you can apply what you have just learned under fatigue and pressure.

No martial arts experience is needed. Krav Maga was specifically designed for people with no prior training. The techniques rely on gross motor movements and instinctive reactions, which means they work even under stress and adrenaline.

What to wear: Comfortable athletic clothing. Shorts or leggings and a t-shirt. No gi or special equipment needed. We provide training gloves and pads.

Class duration: 60 minutes.

Drop-in rate: Starting from ฿550 per class. We also offer class packs and all-access monthly memberships that include KMG plus Muay Thai, BJJ, and MMA.

Can You Combine KMG with Other Disciplines?

One of the best things about training at INNOV8 MMA is that you have access to multiple disciplines under one roof. A lot of our KMG students also train Muay Thai, BJJ, or MMA during the week.

That combination is arguably the most practical self-defence training you can get anywhere:

Krav Maga gives you the street-specific skills for dealing with surprise attacks, weapons, and multiple aggressors. Muay Thai develops your striking power, timing, and conditioning using elbows, knees, kicks, and clinch work. BJJ gives you ground control, so if a situation goes to the floor, you know how to survive, escape, and control an attacker.

Our all-access membership gives you unlimited classes across all four disciplines, so you can build a genuinely well-rounded skill set without needing to train at multiple gyms.
